Palo Alto Community Restroom Facility

Restroom Projects

The City of Palo Alto is currently installing new restrooms at a number of locations in Palo Alto recreation facilities. These recreation facilities were chosen due to the high volume of use by the community and the high-quality facilities that require a restroom facility for prolonged use.  A capital improvement project was established in 2017 that provides funding every other year for new restroom facilities.

The new restroom facilities will be installed at the following locations.

Current Projects

Cubberley Community Play Fields and Track

A four-stall restroom building with sanitary sewage pump station will be installed at the Cubberley Community Center play fields. The restroom is a much-needed facility for the heavily used fields as there are currently only two portable restrooms available onsite.

Tentative Construction Timeline and Detour Information

The project construction will be completed in phases with Phase 1 consisting of installation of the prefabricated restroom building and Phase 2 consisting of completion of the sewage pump station and site work.

Phase 1 – December 2 through December 20, 2024 (Tentative):

Work planned during this phase includes building pad preparation, utilities work, and installation of the prefabricated restroom building. The existing asphalt pathway adjacent to the track and fields will be closed during this phase and a detour (see schematic map linked below) will be in place. Parking will be impacted along the detour route while the detour is in place. “No Parking” signs will be posted as needed. When this portion of work is completed, the detour will be removed, and the pathway will be reopened until Phase 2 construction operations begin.

Phase 2 – January/February 2025 (Tentative):

Fabrication of the pump station required for the restroom is estimated to take a couple of months. Once the pump components are fabricated tentatively by January/February of 2025, Phase 2 construction will occur including pumps installation and pathway paving. During this phase, it is estimated that the existing asphalt pathway adjacent to the track and fields will be closed again for 1-2 weeks, and the same detour will be in place.

Completed Projects

Rinconada Park

The new Rinconada Park Restroom is located adjacent to the newly remodeled playground at the park. The two-stall restroom services the full park, but provides closer facilities to the playground and group picnic areas at that end of the park. The current restroom located centrally in the park will also be replaced as part of Phase 2 of the Rinconada long range renovation plan, which is anticipated to occur in 2028.

Ramos Park

Ramos Park with its large group picnic area, playground, and large open turf area provides several community options for outdoor recreation.  A new two-stall restroom was installed at Ramos Park to support the facilities of the park.
