PG&E Gas Pipeline Replacement Work Complete - July 2019

In July 2019, PG&E completed the replacement of sections of its gas transmission pipeline that runs through Palo Alto. Work occurred from February through July 2019. Locations of the work and construction schedules are provided below.

Safety is at the heart of everything we do—we appreciate your patience as we worked with PG&E to enhance the pipeline safety and reliability in your neighborhood.

About the Gas Pipeline Replacement Program in 2019

PG&E conducted an in-line inspection of their gas transmission pipeline that runs from Palo Alto to Hillsborough in May 2018. The utility noted areas where parts of the pipe need to be repaired or replaced. In early 2019, PG&E began its work in Palo Alto and completed construction in July 2019. This work involved excavating around the existing underground pipeline and installing new pipe using industry-recognized and proven techniques.

Why PG&E is Working in Palo Alto

The City of Palo Alto Utilities supplies electricity and natural gas to all residents and businesses in Palo Alto. However, we have to transport these commodities from where they originate to our town via pipelines and electric lines owned by Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E). PG&E occasionally needs to perform maintenance on its gas or electric infrastructure.
