Art Center Teen Leadership
Looking for an art-focused leadership opportunity next school year? We are looking for high-school aged teens to join our group of youth, Art Center Teen (ACT) Leadership. ACT Leadership assists in producing programming that connects teenagers to art and artists. Help us plan our next teen only event, make and exhibit art, learn about art careers, gain leadership skills, make friends from different schools, and earn service hours along the way. ACT Leadership is a year-long commitment that meets twice a month. Please contact Grace Pegan Abusharkh, Director of Volunteer Engagement, at grace.abusharkh@cityofpaloalto.org with questions or for application instructions.
Teen Counselor-in-Training Program
Summer Camp Counselors in Training (CIT) are volunteers (12-17 years old) who assist professional art instructors in the day-to-day running of the Children’s Fine Art summer camps. CITs offer support through classroom management, encouraging campers, prepping art supplies and more. This is a great way to earn service hours, develop and strengthen leadership skills, and have fun in a creative environment. CITs volunteer for one full week of camp from 8:45-11:30 a.m. or 12:15-3 p.m.
The Lead Counselor in Training (LCIT) program builds on your experience as an Art Center CIT and provides opportunities for you to help with CIT training, enjoy mentorship from college Children’s Fine Art (CFA) interns, manage camper recreation, and take responsibility as the LCIT for one week of camps, from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Friday. LCIT applicants must have volunteered as an Art Center CIT in the past.
Due to the COVID-19 health crisis, the summer 2020 Counselor-in-Training program has been cancelled. We look forward to working with CITs in summer 2021.
