Worker Dies Overnight After Fall at Construction Site

Palo Alto, CA A construction worker died this morning after falling at a work site in downtown Palo Alto.

On Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at about 12:34 a.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call reporting that a worker had fallen down a shaft inside the building at 525 University Avenue during overnight construction work.  Officers and personnel from the Palo Alto Fire Department responded immediately to render medical aid to the worker, a man in his forties.  Paramedics from the Palo Alto Fire Department transported the man to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

There is no evidence that any crime occurred.  The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health is investigating the circumstances of the death, as is standard in any industrial fatality.  The identity of the decedent can ultimately be obtained from the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner.
