Palo Alto, CA – Police are investigating the burglary of an occupied home late Tuesday night. There was no contact between the suspect and resident.  The suspect is unknown and at large.

On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at about 9:00 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call reporting a burglary that had just occurred at a residence on the 3900 block of Laguna Avenue.  The resident, a woman in her fifties, was awakened by the sound of footsteps elsewhere in house.  When she went to investigate the source of the noise, she saw an unknown person running out of her home.

The investigation revealed that an unknown suspect had entered the home by smashing the sliding glass door of an unoccupied bedroom.  Although it appears that the suspect rummaged through some drawers in a closet, nothing is known to have been taken.

Detectives are exploring the possibility that this case is related to an occupied residential burglary that occurred on the 800 block of Barron on August 27th.  For details on that incident, see the news release we distributed at the time. That case is unsolved and remains open.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call our 24-hour dispatch center at (650) 329-2413. Anonymous tips can be e-mailed to paloalto@tipnow.org or sent via text message or voice mail to (650) 383-8984
