Community Engagement Opportunities Coming Up

The community is invited to attend upcoming meetings and share input on several key initiatives from the work underway to reimagine University Avenue streetscape, to flood control improvement projects, to a potential new Recreation and Wellness Center, and more. Learn about these topics of community interest and opportunities to engage below.
University Avenue Streetscape: The City is exploring options to transform University Avenue, providing a venue for people-centric activities that create a vibrant and inclusive space. Join an in-person workshop style meeting on Wednesday, March 1 at 6 p.m. in the Downtown Library El Camino Room to share input ahead of staff developing conceptual plan options.
Status on Flood Control Projects: Flood control continues to be a community topic of interest and there are two upcoming opportunities for community members to share input and hear updates on work underway. The San Francisquito Creek Joint Powers Authority (JPA) board meeting was planned for February 23, but has since been postponed. New meeting details will be provided as they are available. As a follow-up, a neighborhood community workshop was scheduled for March 2 from 6 – 8:30 p.m. at Duveneck Elementary. Potential Recreation and Wellness Center: Staff is facilitating a proposal for a new Recreation Wellness Center (gym) in Palo Alto and are hosting a community feedback session on March 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Mitchell Park Community Center to gain input on topics such as location, facility amenities, and programming.
Potential Use of Automated License Plate Recognition Technology: The Police Department presented initial information to the City Council and the community on the potential use of Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) technology last fall. Attend a virtual information session on March 9 at 6 p.m. to learn more and share feedback in advance of staff returning to the Council in April for consideration of using ALPR technology to deter criminal activity and assist in criminal investigations.
