Palo Alto City Council Selects Mayor and Vice Mayor For 2024

During their reorganization meeting, the Palo Alto City Council elected former Vice Mayor Greer Stone as Mayor and Council Member Ed Lauing as Vice Mayor for the coming calendar year. The City Council also recognized outgoing Mayor Lydia Kou for her service to the Palo Alto community, unanimously adopting a resolution noting appreciation for outstanding public service.
Mayor Greer Stone moves into the role as mayor following a year as the City’s vice mayor. Vice Mayor Ed Lauing moves into the role following a year as a council member and previously serving on various City commissions for over 15 years, with leadership roles as both chair and vice chair.
The City Council will hold their first business meeting on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, Council Chambers. The City Council will consider their 2024 priorities at their annual priority setting session on Monday, January 29, 2024 beginning at 5:30 p.m., located at Mitchell Park Community Center, El Palo Alto Room. The public is encouraged to participate in Council discussions on topics of community interest at City Council meetings in-person or virtually.
