We Are What We Eat Community Reception
Members of the community are invited to join Neighbors Abroad for the opening ofWe Are What We Eat— Culinary Heritage of our Sister Cities on Saturday, February 3, from 3-5 p.m. in the Palo Alto Art Center Meeting Room. Through the universal languages of art and photography,We Are What We Eat explores how traditional cuisine and modern variations can tell the story of a country and its culture. Artists from Palo Alto’s eight Sister Cities contributed to the project, curated by Palo Alto resident Harriet Stern. From a sculpture depicting Swedish meatballs to whimsical photos of Dutch festival-goers downing whole herrings, the exhibit asks viewers to consider the role of food in defining a place and its people. The February 3 reception will not only be a feast for the eyes–international food and drink will be provided. We Are What We Eatruns concurrently with the Art Center’s exhibitionIn Feast or Famine, which features diverse works from artists pondering how food impacts identity, community, history, health, food equity, sustainability, and agriculture.
