Nelson started learning Chen's Taijiquan (陳式太極拳) in 1989 from Master Gene Chen, an early disciple of Grandmaster of Feng ZhiQiang (Creator of Hunyuan Taijiquan (混元太極拳). Nelson became Master Gene Chen's disciple in 1998. Through his practice of Chen's and Hunyuan Taijiquan, he combines the essence of Chen's Taijiquan Reeling Silk and Hunyuan internal energy to express the principle of Taijiquan. Nelson enjoys teaching Taijiquan and sharing his knowledge with other Taijiquan enthusiasts.

Taichi also known as Taiji (太極) is an essential concept in Chinese culture. Taijiquan (太極拳) is an internal martial art that combines the principles of Positive and Negative energy and the theories in traditional Chinese medicine. Through the slow and soft movement, the practitioners can relax their minds and bodies to cultivate internal energy "Qi”(氣) for health. But through softness, it is an effective form of self defense with steady and precise movement, involving meditation, controlled breathing, and a high-state of awareness. Today there are a number of different styles of Taijiquan with millions of practitioners worldwide.

In this session, Master Ng Nelson will demonstrate the 24 forms of Hunyuan Taijiquan followed by instructions on basic Qigong and Reeling Silk exercises.
