Food for Thought Virtual Panel Discussion
This virtual panel discussion will bring together artists and food experts who share parallel interests in addressing critical issues such as sustainability, labor equity, and diet, while their work contributes to fostering community, connection, and cross-cultural appreciation. Don't miss this opportunity to explore the intersection of art and food, with this panel of creative contributors. This panel is moderated by In Feast or Famine guest curator Marianne McGrath.
Panelists include:
- Jesse Ziff Cool, who has been dedicated to sustainable agriculture and cuisine since the mid-1970s as a writer, restauranteur, spokesperson, and consultant for eco conscious food service.
- Reniel Del Rosario, Bay Area In Feast or Famine exhibiting artist, who creates ceramics that playfully recreate or reimagine familiar objects, questioning value through his engaging installations.
- Kathleen Foley-Hughes, who has more than 25 years of experience as an event planner, fundraiser, and professional caterer who started and runs Ada’s Café, a nonprofit corporation dedicated to hiring, training and empowering employees with disabilities.
- Chelsea Ryoko Wong, one of the artists in the In Feast or Famine exhibition Chelsea Ryoko Wong is a Bay Area painter and muralist, inspired by the multifaceted communities and landscapes of California.
- Gregg Segal, whose work is included in In Feast or Famine is a photographer whose portraiture and photo essays have been featured in numerous publications. His Daily Bread photographic project and publication highlights how we nourish ourselves, through the food consumed by children around the world.
- Chef Tim Shaw has a deep professional and culinary background that stems over 20 years, including catering, private chef services and extensive teaching, with a research focus on promoting sustainability in food systems and nutrition.
- Connie Zheng is a Chinese-born artist, writer and experimental filmmaker based out of Oakland, California who works with maps, seeds, food, environmental histories, speculative fiction, field recordings and hand-drawn animation.
