A Calenda on Cal Ave

You're invited to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Palo Alto and Oaxaca, Neighbors Abroad and the City of Palo Alto have partnered with Lazos Oaxaqueños to bring a calenda to Palo Alto. 

Part of the rich cultural fabric of Oaxaca, calendas are colorful, celebratory public processions featuring dancing, paper mache figures, music, and revelry: part street party and part parade.

This Saturday, October 19, 2024, our friends from Oaxaca are bringing this festive tradition to Palo Alto! Join the fun on California Avenue, between El Camino and the train station, from 5-6 p.m. Before and after the calenda, California Avenue merchants and restaurants will be helping to elevate the festive mood, so plan to spend the afternoon and evening on the city's pedestrian promenade.
