Downtown Automated Parking Guidance Systems (APGS)
Announcement
Construction begins July 15, 2024!
- Project typeTraffic and Transportation
Project Description
A camera-based parking guidance system installed at the new California Avenue Parking Garage located at 350 Sherman Avenue will be installed at four downtown parking garages (Garage CW, Garage R, Garage S/L, and Garage CC). The parking guidance systems will feature ceiling mounted multi-function camera sensors. Each sensor will capture, monitor, and show the status of up to six parking spaces (three per each side of the parking aisle). Integrated LED indicators in the sensor casing display space availability and the type of parking permitted. The sensors can provide detailed parking reports, audits, and performance analysis to help the Office of Transportation continually enhance parking efficiency.
Scope of Work
The project consists of the design, procurement, installation and testing of parking guidance systems at four downtown parking garages.
The Contractor will be working in the drive aisles of the parking garages to install the new camera sensors. Temporary construction signs stating “Garage Under Construction” will be posted at the garage entrances and on the garage floors the Contractor is working on with the dates of work. Traffic control will be set up in the garages to help notify drivers of the Contractor’s location in the garage.
Traffic flow will be maintained at all times in the garages during construction. Vehicles will be directed around the drive aisle.
“No Parking” signs attached to barricades will be posted 72-hours ahead of any work that will impact parking stalls.
Construction hours will be from 8 AM to 5 PM. Saturday work and alternate work hours may be required as determined by the Engineer.
Project Status / Timeline
Construction is anticipated to start July 15 and take eight months to complete. The Contractor will be working in one garage at a time following the above sequence. Work at each garage will vary between 4-7 weeks depending on the number of levels. The Contractor will work at a pace of approximately one level per week.
