Sidewalk, Curb and Gutter Repair Program

Public Works Engineering Services Division manages construction contracts for concrete sidewalk, driveway, curb ramp, curb and gutter repairs and maintenance at various locations across the City annually. The City completed its 30-year district by district repair program in 2017. That same year, Nichols Consulting Engineers was hired to evaluate the Sidewalk, Curb and Gutter Repairs Program and assess potential improvements. This study was completed in Spring 2019 and included surveying 20% of the City’s sidewalk network and nearly 60% of the City’s curb ramps. This data was used to put together the 2019 Sidewalk, Curb and Gutter Repairs Project, which prioritized areas that required immediate repair.

For the FY2024 Sidewalk Repair ADA Improvement Project, the City will be resuming its district-by-district repair schedule. The sidewalk districts were renumbered based on the highest density of priority areas that need to be repaired. The City will be addressing the districts in numerical order.

Scope of Work

  • Remove and replace deteriorated sidewalk, including driveway aprons, due to old age, root uplift, and other distresses such as cracking, patching, vaulting, faulting, spalling, and holes.
  • Upgrade street corner ramps to meet ADA compliance.
  • Remove and replace curbs and gutter pans causing drainage issues.

FY2024 Sidewalk Repair ADA Improvement Project

This year’s project will focus repairs in Districts #1 and #2 from Palo Alto Avenue to Embarcadero Road and from Alma Street to Middlefield Road. Additionally, 311 curb and gutter/flowline repair requests are included for restoration which are found in various locations around the City.
