Every immigrant brings something with him or her as well as leaves something behind in their native country. After spending some time in the US, all immigrants feel that void as they try to match with the pace of their current lives in this country. This series of paintings started from this feeling that I myself went through. It was such a joy to go to a vegetable market or just shopping in general with my mom. The colors, crowds, and the energy there was fascinating. I’ve tried to capture that energy in this series of paintings. The Bay Area is my home now. It’s the world’s melting pot. You get to see and be with people from all over the world when you are at concerts, museums, or even at a farmers’ market in the Bay Area. It’s like the world is living together right here; and that’s what I intend to portray in the “Market” series of paintings. – Suhas Bhujbal
