About the artist:

Laura Splan’s work examines the notions of labor and craft as they relate to material and technology. By combining manual and digital processes with traditional textiles and new media technologies, she interrogates how each is categorized and valued, as well as explores how technology, data, and cultural artifacts mediate our understanding of the human body. Splan’s creative practice integrates laboratory techniques, specialized software, and textile methods to challenge and blur the boundaries between art, design, and craft.

Splan received her BA from UC Irvine, and her MFA from Mills College. She lives and works in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY.
