About the artist:

Hideo Mabuchi’s journey from Applied Physics to weaving started when the artist, already an accomplished potter, took a weaving class at the Haystack Mountain School of Craft. Mabuchi ended up fully invested in the workings of an 8-shaft loom and began exploring the connections between the loom's configurations and the scientific data with which he was already familiar.

Mabuchi received his Ph.D. in Physics from the California Institute of Technology and is Professor of Applied Physics at Stanford University, where he developed a class on algorithmic complexity and computer engineering that combines weaving techniques and mathematics. He lives and works in Menlo Park, CA.
