Nina K. Ekman is originally from the north of Norway but has lived in seven different countries in Europe. She is currently residing in Palo Alto with her husband and two children. Ekman is partly autodidact and has studied art at Parsons School of Art and Design in Paris, product design at The Design Academy in the Netherlands, and was trained in copper etching and printing at Atelier Velasco & Meller in Paris. She furthermore has a Cand. Psych. from the University of Geneva, Switzerland.

Ekman has exhibited in galleries and museums in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Amsterdam and Paris and at the Beijing International Fiber Art Biennale Exhibition. She was a finalist in the Luxembourg art prize in 2021 and came third at the BBA artprise at Kühlhaus, Berlin. She has been a resident at the Danish National Workshops of Art, and received several work grants. She is currently represented by Format Artspace in Copenhagen. She has also been commissioned for public artwork in Denmark, amongst them a mural.
