Harumo Sato is a California based Japanese visual artist who graduated from University at Buffalo in 2015. In questioning our busy and highly industrialized daily lives, she translates old mythological analogy and allegory imagery into the modern, colorful, and unique visual images. In her art practice, she uses various patterns and colors to create visual pleasure and vivacious energy with the combination of screen prints, Japanese watercolor, sumi ink, oil pastel, and acrylic.
"Through paintings and public art, I seek to unite our contradictory society. Jungian Psychology points out that one needs to accept their shadow, something that they don’t want to accept as a part of who they are, to grow as a mature individual. I propose that society is an ever-changing organism like our body."
