Spend the Holiday Weekend Enjoying Summer Streets

The Fourth of July holiday weekend is far from traditional this year, but you can still enjoy Summer Streets on University and Cal Avenue in Palo Alto.

The Summer Streets program is a new effort that began on Cal Ave in June to expand outdoor dining and retail options during the ongoing COVID-19 health emergency. It debuted on University Avenue the weekend of June 26 – June 28, but had to temporary pause to accommodate traffic while the Black Lives Matter mural was being painted on Hamilton Avenue in front of City Hall.

Look for it to return to University Avenue, beginning July 3 through August 2. The program runs on Cal Avenue through Labor Day. The City will re-evaluate whether to shorten or extend the timing based on planned check-ins with businesses and the community.

If you decide to grab a bit to eat and shop local, then don’t forget to head to Hamilton Avenue to check out the finished Black Lives Matter street mural. For more information on Summer Streets, go to: cityofpaloalto.org/SummerStreets.

Please don’t forget to wear a face covering when you step out to keep yourself, employees, and our community safe.
