Downtown Office Cap Eliminated

Downtown Office Cap Eliminated

On Monday, Feb. 11, Council voted to change the City’s zoning code to remove the downtown office cap. The 1986 law set a limit of 350,000 square feet for new non-residential development downtown. Despite the repeal, commercial development still has an annual office cap of 50,000 square feet for the downtown area, California Avenue and El Camino Real. There’s also a citywide cap of 850,000 square feet by 2030.
