Flags Flown at Half-Staff in Honor of Senator McCain

The flag outside Palo Alto City Hall, the Municipal Service Center, and all City fire stations are being flown at half-staff in honor of U.S. Senator John McCain and his service to our nation. Under proclamation from President Trump, the flags will be flown this way until McCain’s burial.

The longtime Arizona Senator died on Saturday, roughly a year after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. He was 81.

According to a McCain family spokesperson, he will lie in state in both the Arizona Capitol and the U.S. Capitol Rotunda on Wednesday and Friday respectively, before his burial in a private service in Annapolis on Sunday.

McCain was a former Navy pilot who graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and was held as a prisoner of war for more than five years during the Vietnam War.
