Part of Peers Park About to Go to the Dogs
Dog owners and their canine friends have a lot to celebrate as Peers Park is about to become Palo Alto’s newest dog park. The public is invited to the ribbon cutting ceremony taking place on June 14 at 6:30 p.m. as two off-leash dog sections will be unveiled at the Park Boulevard location; one for small dogs and another for mixed-sized dogs. These newly designated areas are thanks to the Parks Master Plan approved by Council in September 2017. The plan calls for a range of improvements throughout the City’s cherished 28 parks, including adding up to six new dog parks.
The new dog sections at Peers Park include amenities such as dog drinking fountains, a double entry dog gate, and pet cleanup stations. The new master plan also comes with a new limit of three dogs that a person can take to a dog park.
The City currently has three dog parks at Greer, Hoover and Mitchell parks. Peers Park was selected as the best location for the first new dog park in decades because the north segment of town doesn’t have any dog park facilities.
Be sure to bring your “best friend” to “bark up the right tree” during the grand opening celebration!
