Ride & Drive – Green That Is
If you've ever wanted to test drive a "green" car now’s your chance at the free EV (electric vehicle) ride-and-drive event that will be held on Tuesday, July 26 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. right outside City Hall, 250 Hamilton Avenue. A driver’s license is all you need to be able to test drive a Nissan LEAF, VW e-Gold, Audi A3 e-tron or a Fiat 500e. EV representatives will be on hand with information about available incentives, rebates, charging and more.
The event is made possible by a $53,000 grant awarded by the California Energy Commission to the City’s Office of Sustainability for electric vehicle outreach and education. The City has partnered with Thesen and Associates and Plug in America/REACH Strategies to conduct Plugin Electric Vehicle (PEV) awareness through green car shows that allow the community to test drive and experience PEVs, with the goal of increasing the rate of EV adoption in Palo Alto.
Palo Alto has one of the highest electric vehicle adoption rates of Bay Area cities, still the City’s Sustainability and Climate Action Plan (SCAP) targets more EVs as one of the key actions to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions; the Plan calls for 90 percent of vehicles in Palo Alto—and half of inbound commuting vehicles— to be EVs by 2030.
