Palo Alto’s Free Summertime Events
With the official start of summer on June 20, this is the perfect time of year to enjoy the longer, leisure days at one of the City's many summer music series, or at the annual Chili Cook Off and Summer Festival.
From June through August, the City has a variety of free concerts for almost every musical taste.
The popular Twilight Concert Series begins Saturday, June 18 with the Youth Orchestra and Choral Concert at Mitchell Park Courtyard. The free concerts are from 6:30-8:30pm on Saturdays and include a Rolling Stones and a Santana tribute band, the U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West and two children's movie nights. In addition to Mitchell Park Community Center, this year’s venues include Rinconada Park, California Avenue and the Palo Alto Children’s Theatre Secret Garden.
A variety of musical genres will fill University Avenue and King Plaza for the eighth annual Palo Alto World Music Day on Sunday, June 19. The annual free musical festival takes place from 3-7:30 p.m. and coincides with Father's Day.
Downtown Palo Alto’s Music on the Plaza kicks-off on Thursday, July 7 outside City Hall with Rock & Roll band Dutch Uncle. This free music series runs through August 11 and includes the Motown sounds of Pride & Joy, Bud E. Love’s Swing Orchestra, a Doobie Brothers tribute group, a country music night, and one where they will be singing the blues.
This year marks the 35th year of the Chili Cook Off that takes place each 4th of July. Think you have a sizzling chili recipe that packs the heat and could take home a prize? You’re in luck because the entries have been extended until Thursday, June 16 at 12 p.m. There is more than $2,000 in cash and prizes at stake, plus bragging rights. Click here to enter. Of course, you don’t have to cook to come out on Independence Day and sample the chili from noon to 5 p.m. at Mitchell Park.
No matter if you want to kick up your heels or put on your dancing shoes, you’re invited to pack lots of fun in your summer by coming out to these Palo Alto events.
