Councilmembers Pat Burt Elected as Mayor, Greg Scharff as Vice Mayor
At its first meeting of the new year on January 4, the Palo Alto City Council elected Councilmember Pat Burt as Mayor and Councilmember Greg Scharff as Vice Mayor. Burt was first elected to the Council in 2007, re-elected in 2013 and served as Mayor in 2010. He has served as chair of the Policy and Services, Finance, CAO, City/School Committees, as well as the re-formed Rail Committee. Burt also served as chair (2012) and is a member of the San Francisquito Creek Joint Power Authority. He has also been a liaison to the Palo Alto/Stanford Citizen Corps Council, Santa Clara County Emergency Preparedness Council, and Stanford University. Prior to joining the Council, Burt served as a member and chair of the Palo Alto Planning and Transportation Commission, president of the University South Neighborhoods Group, and as a member of the SOFA Area Plan Working Group and Palo Alto Airport Advisory Group.
Scharff was first elected to the Council in 2009, served as Vice Mayor in 2012, Mayor in 2013 and was re-elected in 2014. He has served on the Finance Committee (chair in 2011), Policy and Services Committee, Council Appointed Officers Committee (chair), City/School Committee, and was a member of the Infrastructure Committee, Regional Housing Mandate Committee and Utilities Advisory Committee Representative.
Both the mayor and vice mayor serve for one year terms.
