Palo Alto Partners With Community Organizations to Host Health Fair

Palo Alto, CA – The City of Palo Alto is partnering with the YMCA, Stanford Children's Health, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital and other local nonprofit agencies to host the 2015 Palo Alto Community Health Fair on Saturday, Sept. 26 that begins with remarks from Palo Alto Mayor Karen Holman at 9:50 a.m. and runs through 3 p.m. at the Mitchell Park Community Center.   The health fair will include multi-generational activities including one-on-one sessions with Stanford physicians, talks on heart health, juvenile and adult diabetes, and nutrition. At the information expo, participants can learn more about local health services, visit the Safety Town Exhibit, participate in interactive exercise classes for all ages, attend a bike and helmet demonstration, and get creative with hands-on art activities.  There will also be a performance by the Gunn High School Jazz Band.  Because there is a strong connection between health and happiness, including opportunities for creative expression, the fair will feature music, art and other hands-on activities.

The 2015 Palo Alto Community Health Fair is part of the City Council’s priority of Healthy City, Healthy Community that was adopted this year as an area of focus.  A group of health and community stakeholders have been meeting on a regular basis to talk about several programs related to the priority, including participation and support of the health fair.

"The Healthy City, Healthy Community Council priority is our commitment to adopt and promote healthy social, cultural and physical environments that support wellbeing and citizens coming together to engage in meaningful work for the benefit of the community,"  said Palo Alto Mayor Karen Holman who will open the event with a brief overview of healthy living in Palo Alto.  “We are fortunate to have so many dedicated organizations who have joined together to make this truly a community-wide effort.”

The 2015 Palo Alto Community Health Fair sponsors include the City of Palo Alto, YMCA, Stanford Children’s Health, Stanford Health Care, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, Palo Alto Chinese School, and several other local nonprofit agencies.
