New Council Members Sworn In and Mayor and Vice Mayor Elected
At its first meeting of the new year on Jan. 5, the Palo Alto City Council elected Karen Holman as mayor and Greg Schmid as vice mayor. Holman has served on the City Council since 2009, and was re-elected in November for a second term. As a councilmember, she has served as chair of the Policy and Services and Council Appointed Officers Committees, and as a member of the Regional Housing Mandate and Finance Committees. She also served for eight years on the Palo Alto Planning and Transportation Commission where she was chair for two terms. Schmid was first elected to the City Council in 2008, and re-elected in 2013. He has served as a member of the Policy and Services, Finance, Council Appointed Officers and City/School Liaison Committees, and served as the chair of the Regional Housing Mandate Committee.
Both the mayor and vice mayor serve for one year terms.
In addition, newly elected councilmembers Tom DuBois, Eric Filseth and Cory Wolbach were sworn in as they begin their four-year terms.
