Lending a Hand to Palo, Our First Sister City
As a community, we have often come together to lend a hand to others. This is one of those times as our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the devastating typhoon in the Philippines, especially to our friends in our sister city of Palo, which has sustained catastrophic damage.
Fifty years ago Palo became the first of our sister cities, and we have made many connections through the years through Neighbors Abroad, who has sponsored a children's library in Palo for many years. The City of Palo Alto is working to help get funds and assistance directly to our sister city. The City Council has donated $10,000 from its contingency fund to help the relief effort. We encourage the entire community to assist this effort by sending donations to:
Palo Disaster Relief
c/o Neighbors Abroad
PO Box 52004
Palo Alto, CA 94303
The community is also encouraged to give directly to the Red Cross to help with immediate relief efforts for the Philippines at http://www.redcross.org/. We will communicate with the community on other ways to get involved as relief efforts develop.
