Palo Alto Parks To Be Smoke Free
At its meeting on May 13, the Palo Alto City Council approved a ban on smoking at all local parks, regardless of size, and directed staff to draft an ordinance to implement the measure throughout the city's 4,500 acres of parkland. The Council also agreed to ask the Parks and Recreation Committee to consider whether the city’s largest open spaces should have designated smoking areas. The ordinance will also include an increase in no-smoking buffers from 20 to 25 feet.
Palo Alto joins a number of cities including Mountain View Campbell and Los Gatos that have imposed new restrictions on smoking in certain parks and public spaces.
