Birding
Baylands is one of the top birding hotspots on the west coast. At different times of the year the preserve is visited by avocets, black-necked stilts, black skimmers, white-tailed kites, willets, pregrine falcons, sandpipers, yellowlegs, snowy egrets, endangered clapper rails, and nearly 100 other bird species. There are many good locations in the preserve that are especially good for bird watching. For more information and hotspot locations, visit the Baylands birding page.

Photography
Many photographers focus on capturing some of the amazing birds at Baylands, but the preserve also has some spectacular sunsets, and beautiful bay landscapes to choose from. Don't forget to bring a tripod!

Walking, running, rollerblading, & bicycling are all popular activities that allow visitors to enjoy the marine air, beautiful bay views, and see some of the preserve's wildlife. Get away from the hustle and bustle of Silicon Valley without leaving the Peninsula.

Water sports include boating and sailboarding using non-motorized (gas or electric) canoes, kayaks or small, hand-launched boats and sailboards. Launch boats and sailboards from the sailing station boat launch dock.
