What's Happening Now...

In November 2008, 69.4% of Palo Alto voters passed a $76 million bond measure (Measure N) to fund major facility improvements to three libraries and the Mitchell Park Community Center. The City has also allocated $4 million in infrastructure funds to complete an extensive historic renovation of the College Terrace Library and childcare center.

The College Terrace Library closed in July 2009 for construction, scheduled to last 12-14 months.

The City of Palo Alto is moving forward on the three important and exciting library and community center projects that will be funded by Measure N.  Designs are now being finalized for renovating the Downtown Library and building a new 52,000 square foot Mitchell Park Library and Community Center to replace the two buildings currently on the site.  A temporary library in the auditorium of the Cubberley Community Center is being designed to provide service while the new library is being built. After a new Mitchell Park Library opens, the Main Library will close for an expansion and major remodel.   At the conclusion of this process in 2013, we will have modern libraries offering places for everyone in our community to gather and learn.
