What’s Happening at Byxbee Park
The City’s Public Works Department is importing soil to bring the ground surface elevations back up to the required height at Byxbee Park (the former landfill). The ground surface has settled over the past 25 years as the refuse beneath has decomposed. The concrete k-rail chevrons (the “arrow” public art feature that points toward the airport) will need to be removed and the adjacent steep “trail” will be out of service during the soil replacement. Many of the other trails will remain open. Within the next few months, the City will build a new trail and put the k-rails back in their original spots. The work at Byxbee Park will begin the week of June 8, and other areas will be taken out of service during the settlement repair work. The project could be completed by the end of the year.
