FY 2017 Lincoln Avenue and Middlefield Road Resurfacing Project
Middlefield Road from Forest Avenue to Lowell Avenue will be reconstructed with continuous exposed curb and gutters to match the adjacent section north of Forest Avenue to Hamilton Avenue, constructed in the FY 2016 Alma Street and Middlefield Road Paving Project. All driveway aprons will be replaced as part of the gutter installation and widened as needed. All street corners will receive new concrete curb ramps to comply with current ADA standards. The asphalt roadway will be milled up to three inches and repaved with rubberized asphalt concrete (RAC). Lincoln Avenue from Middlefield Road to Bryant Street. The storm drain main replacement project was completed in February 2017 and the road is ready for repaving. The road surface will be milled to the concrete base and resurfaced with hot mix asphalt concrete. Any damaged concrete road base will be replaced along with specific sections of damaged curbs, gutters and sidewalks. All street corners will receive new concrete curb ramps to comply with current ADA standards. For more information please view the project flyer and the staff report.

Beginning Monday, October 9, 2017, a contractor hired by the City of Palo Alto, O’Grady Paving, will be working on the intersection of Middlefield Road and Kellogg Avenue.  The contractor will be closing the intersection of Kellogg Avenue and Middlefield Road for approximately 3 weeks in order to install new curb extensions at the intersection. This work will also include green stormwater infrastructure, which will reduce stormwater runoff into the San Francisco Bay. Detours and signs will be in place to direct traffic and bicyclists/pedestrians safely around the closure.  If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please call the Project Manager for the project,  Jarrett Mullen at (650) 329-2218.

Construction Update:

  • Paving from Forest Avenue to Lowell Ave is completed (except for the intersection of Embarcadero Road and Middlefield Road).  The intersection will be milled and paved after the traffic signal installation is completed.  The traffic signals installation is expected to be completed by the end of November 2017 and followed by the intersection paving.
  • Permanent striping for Middlefield Road from Forest Avenue to Lowell Avenue will be installed by the end of next week, Friday, November 10, 2017.

Following paving, the City’s contractor will install the roadway striping and adjust utilities valves and manholes.

“No Parking” signs will be posted 72 hours in advance of the work.  Residents will have access to their driveways, however, access may be temporarily blocked during paving.
