As the technology team for the City of Palo Alto, we are uniquely positioned to help provide solutions that span across all city functions and deep into our community. Our strategy is to embrace the very best of technology innovation with a vision to “Build and Enable a Leading Digital City". Under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer, IT delivers five core service areas designed to enable, facilitate, and improve government services to our community. 

Information Technology Five Core Service Areas: 

The IT Governance and Planning
 division ensures that IT works on the right things at the right time for the right reasons to increase value delivery and reduce risk. The division also includes a data management component to help identify, capture, analyze, and interpret enterprise data that contributes to better decision-making, open government, cost reduction, quality of services, digitization, automation and planning. These services include:    

  • Strategic alignment  
  • Risk management
  • Resource management
  • Performance measurement
  • Data management

 

The IT Projects Services division assumes approved IT projects and provides project management services for delivering an idea from start to implementation. These services include:

  • Project life cycle management
  • Solution research, evaluation, and recommendation

 

The IT Operations division maintains and supports all deployed backend and frontend city technologies including the process of retiring products and services. The team also ratifies standards working alongside other IT department divisions.

The Enterprise Systems division is responsible for maintaining a core set of large, shared enterprise-wide systems. The scale and nature of these systems, such as SAP and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), necessitate a focused approach. These services include:

  • Enterprise Systems Governance and Roadmap Planning
  • Enterprise Systems Administration, Support and Maintenance
  • Enterprise Systems Integration
  • Business Intelligence System Management
  • Master Data Management and Dissimilation
  • Systems integration with business partners, customers, and agencies
  • Enterprise Systems Security Compliance
  • System Change Management

 

The Information Security Services division is responsible for developing and implementing a citywide information security program that includes the preservation of the availability, integrity, and confidentiality of city information resources. These services include:

  • Security Policy and Procedures
  • Legal Compliance
  • Risk Management
  • Disaster Recovery
  • Security Audit
