Tours for schools are available for:
- The City's Landfill and Composting Facility
- The SMaRTŪ Station
The Sunnyvale Materials Recovery & Transfer Station (SMaRTŪ Station) is where the garbage from Palo Alto homes and businesses is processed. At the SMaRTŪ Station, additional recyclable materials and yard trimmings are recovered from the waste stream, processed and marketed. The remaining garbage is then transported for disposal to the Kirby Canyon Landfill in San Jose.
