Transportation

Mission
To enhance safety and mobility in Palo Alto’s transportation system while protecting environmental resources and preserving community quality of life.

The Transportation Division is responsible for Parking Management, Traffic Operations in the City, the Bicycle System, Area Transportation Studies, Public Transit Service, Regional Transportation activities, the Shuttle System and Neighborhood Traffic Calming.

Traffic Signal Installation at Town & Country Shopping Center & Palo Alto High School
Through December 2009, traffic on Embarcadero Road between El Camino Real and High Street will experience periodic delays and congestion due to construction.

California High Speed Rail Project
On November 4, 2008, voters passed Proposition 1A, which authorized $9.95 billion in bond funds to plan and build the California High Speed Rail Project (HSR).

Stanford Avenue/El Camino Real Intersection Improvement Project
The project includes the design of improvements to implement the demonstration phase of the Context Sensitive design developed by Caltrans and the City of Palo Alto for the El Camino Real corridor.

Ramp Metering Now at Highway 101 Southbound On-Ramps at Oregon Expressway and Embarcadero Road
The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), in conjunction with Caltrans, is scheduled to activate ramp metering on the southbound ramps of Highway 101 on November 9, 2009 from Embarcadero Road to De La Cruz Blvd.
