Description:
This is a program in Palo Alto that requires a mandatory response in many types of disputes involving rental housing properties. Either a tenant, owner, or property manager can start the process, at no cost to any party, by filing a petition form with the program administrator. The Palo Alto Mediation Program exists to empower citizens to resolve their disputes through voluntary dispute resolution processes. The program provides mediation services as well as information and conciliation in a variety of contexts. Typical cases handled by the program include tenant/landlord, neighbor to neighbor, consumer, workplace and business-to-business disputes. The program services are free. They are available to anyone who lives, works, does business, or owns property in Palo Alto. Mediation under this program is conducted by community volunteers from Palo Alto who are recruited and trained on an annual basis. Project Sentinel administers the program, under contract to the City of Palo Alto. Project Sentinel is a non-profit agency with over 25 years experience in conducting dispute resolution programs.
