The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West kicks off with a patriotic show

Palo Alto, CA -- The City of Palo Alto in partnership with the Palo Alto Weekly kicks off the Annual Twilight Concert Series on Saturday, July 2, at 6:30 PM with the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West's Concert Band performing in Rinconada Park.

The concert will focus on a variety of styles, from traditional wind ensemble repertoire, patriotic music, marches and outstanding soloists. The band is led by Captain Haley Armstrong, Commander and Conductor of the Band of the Golden West.

The United States Air Force Band of the golden West is stationed at Travis Air Force Base, California. As the only remaining active duty Air Force band west of the Rockies, its geographic area of responsibility includes Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Idaho and California. The Band of the Golden West has performed for gubernatorial inaugurations, with guest artists such as Toni Tennille, Marvin Stamm and Bob Hope, and for the fans of the Oakland A’s, San Francisco Giants, Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers.  The band has been seen and heard by thousands in performances throughout its touring region.

Concerts in the Twilight Concert Series entertain a wide variety of audiences. All concerts occur on Saturdays at 6:30 PM and are free to the public.

  • July 9 – 300 block of California Avenue: Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums, jump blues, swing, and jazz of the 30s, 40s and 50s
  • July 23 – Rinconada Park: Moonalice, 70s rock, acid blues jam band
  • July 30 – Rinconada Park: Pellejo Seco, Afro-Cuban Jazz Ensemble
  • August 6 – Mitchell Park: Tempest, high energy Celtic folk rock
  • August 13 – Mitchell Park: The Sun Kings, Beatles cover band
  • August 20 – Mitchell Park: Teens on the Green, featuring original songs performed by local teen bands

The concerts are a great way to bring families and the community together through great music.

Produced by the City of Palo Alto Arts and Sciences Division and the Palo Alto Weekly. The concert receives funding from The Palo Alto Community Fund, Rick’s Ice Cream, The Counter, Gordon Biersch, Whole Foods Market, Tom Upton’s Phototrainer and Sprinkles Cupcakes.
